Transcription: Andrew Jackson was the first American president to be inaugurated on the East Front steps of the Capitol. He was sworn in as seventh president of the U.S. in 1829. Before then, presidents took their oath in either the Senate or House of Representatives. Jackson, however, was a populist who wished to have his inauguration open to the public.
